Pros: You can't forget to turn it on Cruisers can change batteries between sorties so power shouldn't be a problem
Cons: Uses battery power even when not needed which makes you change batteries more often If you need to clear a vapor lock you can't cycle power to the pump you can forget to forget to turn the pump on (biggest ship killer I know) motor gets more wear because it's used more

I wasnt sure, if it was better to have it on all the time! The mistake at fall regionals when i went last year, i was was looking at the pump on one of my friend ships, and all most got a mouth full of water!

That way if you forget to turn it on, it will come on automatically. If the auto-switch isnt working, you can always turn it on manually. It's a little more complicated, but the easiest way to make sure there isn't a failure. | | | HMS Invincible

My very first sink was at 2004 IRCWCC NATS (in my first battle no less) because I forgot to turn the pump on while I was waiting for the second sortie to start! | | | HMS Invincible

Just saying that's something you could think about as well for setting your ship up. my idea, for the pump, is not going strait up, but going backwards, so it looks like she pealing! not the best way to say it! I prefer straight up so I always know exactly how hard I am pumping, and thus have a good idea as to how much damage I have. Besides, a ship pumping hard blowing a pump stream 20 feet in the air looks cool. | | | HMS Invincible

That was funny! Just don't stand over the boat, when She pumping, and you'll get a wet butt, doing it!
