 | | 10 Apr 2010 06:09 PM | | FYI - Everyone A few weeks ago, Don C, and I both had what we considered close calls at the Bruhaha. He suffered a split lip, and the BB hit the tooth also, but luckily did not damage the tooth. I had a BB hit me on the cheek right at the bottom edge of my safety glasses. Since it was traveling at about a 45 deg angle after it deflected off the deck of my ship, it then deflected up under my glasses, and bounced back and fourth 3 times, off the inside of the glasses and my eyelid. We both decided to find something better, and after finding nothing around town that we liked, I found a nice set of fullface safety glasses online, and we both purchased a set, and we used them at today's battle. We went with the X200, because we both wanted to wear a hat. It has UV400 protection, is a primary shield, with anti-fog coating. We also noticed that it cut glare completely. | | 12 Apr 2010 01:11 PM | | I work in an industrial area for the US Air Force ... we fix vehicles. The face shield technology we use now is 30 years old! I immediately realized that the Raygear shields would be perfect for us so got on the web site this morning and sent a question via their contact page.
To my surprise, the owner called me less than 20 minutes ago! We chatted for a while about the products and applications in my work area. He was surprised to find out where i heard about the face shield from. heh.
Interestingly enough, it seems my base is not the only one looking hard at these. At least three other Air Force bases are intensely interested in procuring some.
Anyway, someone asked a question if the shields can protect against BBs. Yes, they can! The shields are impact resistant up to 400 feet per second ... nearly twice the FPS of our strongest cannons.
The owner related that the UV protection is outstanding. I'll let the Region 3 guys tell us what they think about it.
One last note. If you are trying to order one from the web site and keep getting that little pop-up window saying they are out of stock ... it is a web site bug. You MUST click on one of the radial buttons before adding it to the cart. The company owner is aware of the problem and going to work with his web site developer to either put a message saying click on a radial button, or else figure a way to automatically select the single order radial button.
I just ordered one and requested 2nd day air shipping. I want this thing in time for the IRC Spring Regional this coming weekend to see how well it works.
For the Georgia guys, the Ray Gear owner will be at Warner Robins AFB on May 11th for a safety fair to be held at the Aviation Museum. Since Macon is only a couple hours from Statesburo, it might be worth taking the trip. | | Mike Mangus
