 | | 28 Jan 2010 09:52 AM | | There have been previous (and recent) discussions about an R Class hull but the conclusion was it was not worth making the mold. That was because all 5 ships had the smaller forward rudder removed after WWI so no longer got the 50% bonus in rudder area allowed by most small gun rules. I had plans and was considering making the mold, but when the reduced rudder area was known interest in the hull evaporated. Wait until you see what Ralph coles has in the pipeline - you'll want one of those instead of a R Class hull! Secret project to be announced in a few weeks, when the mold is nearly ready. Bob | | | |

And if everyone else is building the boat that is better, then that means there will not be as many R-class ships out there. Mikey | | | |

 | | 07 Apr 2010 09:47 AM | | I just spoke to Ralph and am not allowed to reveal what the hull project is yet. A few hints: it's a class of capital ship that served in WWII, the hull was bulged and the model hull will be suitable for more than one ship in the class. The complex bulges are responsible for the slow progress. Though they looked good in photos Ralph emailed he wants them to be as accurate as possible and isn't rushing the project. It'll be several weeks before the plug is ready for molding. The overnight temps are still going below freezing and Ralph's molding shed isn't heated so he'll have to wait for warmer weather after finishing the plug. Bob | | | |
