I finally got the Tirpitz out on the water with a nifty helmet camera mount for the ATC2K. I got 30 minutes of video but as it was mostly the same I posted a small bit of it. Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0u3FXBI6JZo

It lost some resolution in the upload and I am not sure how to get the HD view of it enabled, maybe they do that themselves.

It gave a real drivers view of the pond but I need to adjust the front to see more of the ship. Do to the focal distance I am not sure if I aimed it down at the deck if it would capture the video of the battle. I may try it next weekend if I have time to make a mount.

If you have any suggestions let me know.

Thanks,

Johnny

Just a thought guys i have a little "Hero GoPro" camera designed for remote control car racing to mount right on the car, the nice thing is its a digital camera that does a great job of video and has the same mounts as the other cam here and the housing for the camera makes it BB-proof and it is submersible to 200' (yes feet) so you can see it is nice and small, it fits nice on a small cruiser and has a 170degree front view and is clear, with a little rain-x on the housing even splashes just roll off and the view stays nice and clear, even picks up boat firing sounds etc. check it out, (and for the Canadians yes there is a on-line store in Canada that carries it in BC, its about $150 Canadian or less. http://www.rcwings.com/store/ (thats about $100 or less for our friends south of the border) otherwise check your local hobbyshops that sell remote control cars.)

as you can see its very small even in a housing and runs on a SD card and 2xAAA batteries, great for attaching to the kids bike helmets also (tried that, lots of fun). I just put about 3 #64 rubber bands around my boat hull and cross them over the base to quickly mount the camera (one would be enough but for safety i use 3).

I got the Tirpitz out again with the camera on Memorial Day. We sailed at Herman Park in Houston,Texas. We had 3 ships: The Tirpitz, USS Houston, USS W. Virginia. The camera doesnt like the light very well but overall the chase shots are pretty good. I think this will make a great battle-cam in the future. Enjoy.

What would be really cool is to have a couple of these mounted on a pole underwater to film ships sinking during a Nats or local battle.

My original thought was to put one inside the ship and maybe just below the surface. However any underwater filming would need clear water and alot of light.

I want to put led lights inside the hull so I can see how it fills as the battle rages on. I thought it might be useful.

us a small LED pen light just left "ON" in the hull, not much room, self contained

and easy to install, if you want, tape or elastic band it to the camera.
