Anybody interested in a small group build project?  I think we could all learn a lot from it.  Not to mention it is now building season for most of us anyway.

I was thinking of doing this old school and building a wooden rib and Keel Hull.  The technique is almost lost and this would at least be fun to do.

I can take a set of plans set and make a nice rib/keel/deck template set for all to use.  I would just post the plans on digital download and those who can not get it printed can let me know and I will print them out for them at cost (Kinkos).

We could keep the ship at a smaller class like a class 4 or 5.  The VU or any dreadnaught would do fine.

Let me know who might be interested and I will get started on the plans if we have a few reply here.

Thwere is two VU's...  I can not get it to edit...

Current builds: Mutsu; Baden (Total Refit); North Carolina; Viribus Unitis

Interesting having a group build. I used to do them on another website building 1/35 armor. I will be watching this tread.

I can't say for sure I'd participate but I'd for sure love to follow along and be able to point people to such a thread.

I am pouring through all my plans in my shop.  A few stick out as great builds for both rookies and Seasoned Captains.  The VU is leading the pack.   I will see what else I have...

I'd vote for something short.. though it'd be nice to also pick something that isn't available in fiberglass.

How about a PDN? Seems a lot of interest lately in those.

I think any of the early British dreads would work well. They are not very big and have somewhat simple hull forms...

The PDN's are 3.5 units. Not bad but all have 1 rudder. Hull lines simple enough. Some even look good..lol

I still like the VU myself for a wood build, The hull lines are very simple, and the beam/length ratio is very nice. 2 rudders, and 4 units...

VUs can be very hard to get a shot on. I am building it's predecessor, Radetzky. It is a twin rudder 2 shaft 3.5 unit PDN. Group builds are lots of fun.

Note the fairly recent rule change in IRCWCC and MWCI that allows PDNs a single sidemount cannon.

IRC approved that?  Don't see it on the online rules as of yet.

It was on and passed on the 2010 ballot. Guess the online rules have not been updated yet. Also, IRCWCC has a new set of casement rules very similier to the MWC casement rules. Again, probably not posted online yet.

HMS Neptune, pretty simple hull, 2 rudders, and the ideal turret arrangement for slugging with superfiring turrets aft and a wing turret right near the stern.

Who said sidemounts..LOL, The VU kicks but with 3 stern guns....  she spins on her butt with twin rudder and the short fat hull..  perfect combo for run and gun style battles

Not arguing that the VU is a bad ship. I've seen some good ones.

But ... I've seen a bunch VUs. PDNs on the other hand are somewhat rare. Also, PDNs can reload in fast gun campaigns.

How about a Rodney class monitor? Nice sized hull and a central turret. *shrug* just a n00b's thought.
