R/C Naval Combat

I almost forgot, I should be getting a detailed book about the NC tomorrow too (from the NC's official website). But you'll have to wait for friday for any pics since ill be spending all day at work or at school finishing my architectual projects.

Its going pretty well, Ive got the ribs and deck rim cut out and dry fit together. Hopefully over the holidays I'll get a chance to start epoxying it all together and putting in the water channeling. By January I'll know what all I want to buy for the spring so if all goes well I might even have a Z boat next spring/summer but thats less of a priority. Dont worry either I'll have a new scratch built VDT or my current one so we can trade bb's. The ABS is looking good, actually im planning on building the new superstructure out of some ABS sheet and bar stock. In other news I built a cannon tonight, nothing special pretty standard design, seems to work well so thats good. Have to run some penetration tests and there are some ideas Id like to try out so that should keep me busy when I cant work on the new VDT.

Looking forward to seeing that NC on the water, should be a pretty exciting spring with both you and Ron building boats, should be some good battling. I need to recruit some people for the axis cause. Let me know when you have questions.

Cut windows or install running gear first?

Ive always cut the windows first, fill the hull to the correct weight and mark the waterline, then mark the windows out and cut. I think its probably easier to cut with an empty hull and then everything doesnt get covered in fiberglass dust. Cut the windows outside, wear goggles and a mask so you dont inhale the dust.

Ok. I got the running gear and the NC Technical Reference book. The book contains plans by George Geoff. Can I use the plans I got with the book to mark the waterline instead of pouring dirt or whatever in the hull to get the waterline correct?

Yeah I would think you can, never done it but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

How would I find out how much stuff to put in the hull anyway?

I just ordered the deck kit so it should be here by next weekend.

Wow! Santa just gave me a Washington hull and hardware kit. He said the deck kit should be here next week.

Speaking of running gear, I hooked up one of the motors and it said (whe set to 20,000 ohms) that I had 0.02. Which Im guessing is 200 ohms? Does this sound correct?

Resistance in the motors is meaningless while they're standing still, unless it's an open circuit :)

How many shafts are you driving?

2 inside shafts with the 2 outer acting as drags

I put the deck from BC on my hull yesterday and I noticed that it is about 1/8 bigger than the hull on all sides. Is this normal or was there a descrepency in the routing?

That's normal. You have to sand it to fit. I recommend a big beltsander :)

Your subdeck should also be bigger than the fiberglass hull, and require sanding to fit.

Also the hull itself may just be in a bit, compare it to the drawings to get the exact distance, the hull sides will stretch out a bit if needed. But Tug is right it will require sanding. Up in the bow area will require you to sand at a angle to get it to fit flush to the sides.

We had a great build session yesterday. Even though only snipe me and my friend mark were there. We marked the ribs on my NC and used snipe's drill press to drill the pilot holes in the window corners. I'll post pictures once I get them off mark's phone.

Hehe yeah using the drill press was a little bit of overkill im still a fan of the cordless drill myself but you got it done so thats what counts.

Make any progress on cutting out the windows? Im excited to see how it turns out.
