Good, I see the Austrians can build a decent battleship after all! This pleases all who serve the honorable Japanese Navy. ;) All kidding aside, great report, good to hear you had a lot of fun! And yes, I am VERY jealous of your japanese cruisers. I didn't get to work on mine much today as I spent most of the time cutting out all the windows on a new guys HMS Hood. That is one big big big BIG boat!

Allot of thanks goes to you, I think part of the way she handles is due to your concrete patch water channel. The PE does not rock and roll as the other smaller ships do.

She makes the tight turn at speed, and maybe lists 5 deg if that much, and comes right back to a even keel coming out of the turn. The larger ships really are not pushing her around much, since her weight is down low.

So I think the combination of my differential steering and the concrete patch down low both adds to her turning ability.

Also when she moves through the water she squats down, I think due to the shape of the bow, she only does it going forward, and the entire hull goes lower into the water. Looking at her the bow wave is above the entire hull, right at the bow, and the main deck is at water level. Which makes her even harder to hit, when running along side the other ships, yet when stopped, she sits right at the marked waterline. After I make a few more changes to her, I will go out and get some pictures with her underway.

I couldn't help but notice the plans for VU under your model.

Where did you find those? They look similar to the Prasky plans everybody talks about that seem to be no longer availible...

I've seen plans for the Szent Itsvan but the ships are not identical, SI has twin screws and the other three have a four shaft setup.

Very beautiful vessel. A few years ago I built one out of wood and crammed 4 BDE rotating guns with 12 barrels. Never fought it. Sold it to the Gas Can man.

how hard is it to work with once it is set ?

Pretty easy.
I have widened out the water-channel in my Strasbourg twice.
Just mark it with a marker, or ink-pen, then slice through it with a hobby knife. Then get under it with a hobby knife that looks like a chisel, and it came right out.

I am thinking of getting this hull. After building it how is it compared to a bc or stroke models hull. It looks a bit thinner. Are there any scale issues like I hear the Canadian hull has with the casements? How difficult was putting it back together after shippment? I am pondering to do this or the Von der Tann as a second project now.

Does Strike or BC have a VU hull?

I know of two Viribus Unitis hull suppliers: Dreadnought Hulls (under the name Teggethoff) and Ralph Coles.
