| | 07 Dec 2011 05:57 PM | | Anyone (Kotori87 thought of using those 30-40 buck RC Helicopters with mini video cameras to film sorties? Just thought it might provide an interesting and new view of some of the matches, as almost every youtube vid seems to be from shore or onboard. Daemon. | | | |

Also, I have enough things to worry about at the pond, a camera i mount on a ship and turn on is easy enough, adding a helicopter of any sort introduces a lot more things.
Also the more video and pictures I acquire, the more time I have to spend going through it all...
Now, if someone wants to show up with a fairly quiet rc helicopter, and theyre willing to fly it over a body of water and take video, I'm 100% ok with that. | | Running: SMS Derfflinger,

It was going to be their demonstration of an autonomous aerial vehicle for sporting events and such. Still, I'd be worried that any sort of flying thing will distract from the battle more than the recording would add. Something about the human eye (both battlers and spectators) being attracted to fast moving helis rather thanslow moving battleships...

Nobody ever thinks of the safety issues with having spinning rotors at eye level in front of a bunch of distracted battlers. There's a reason when you go to air events that the helo's are always out in a field by themselves. Why not tie a balloon to a boat with a camera on it? You'd get the aerial views without the spinning carbon fiber blades.

| | 10 Dec 2011 08:16 PM | | There are a group of small multi-rotor camera helicopter platforms out there that would work nicely for in-air video. The copters have self stabilization and are much safer than the usual 2 rotor R/C sport helicopter, not to mention incredibly easy to pilot.
If there is any possibility of recording in-air video safely during ships and tank battles, those would be it.

We wish to use it to confirm ranges at which we are/are not getting penetration. These are reasonably stable in wings up to 20 knots at least. http://youtu.be/qbZnK6pTRGY Regards, Kevan

I thought a 1/144 scale Hindenburg type airship would be pretty cool but was disappointed in the available r/c blimp/airship options. I also concluded r/c helicopters have too many safety concerns but the quadrotors are probably the best approach for safety and payload. Their biggest drawback has been high price, although that FY-X4 looks like it might be cost effective.
