Predread I think some of your ideas would be awsome, but perphaps a bit impracticle. I myself am building a sub that will have a wireless fish finder to be used as a type of sonar for submerged running, and a wirless underwater cam to use once in enemy territory. Apart from that, thats about as high-tech as I'd ever go.

U571,

I look forward to seeing a sub built with the features you have in mind. However, I think you will run out of room in a 1/144 sub before you even get half of it installed. I would recommend going up to 1/96 or even 1/72 scale.

Its not only size, its weight. Granted if you build a model you have more room inside that just a the scale size of the original pressure hull. And more weight than scale displacement because you have more air space than scale in the hull... but 1/144 subs are little.

Yeah, they are pretty small. You can look at the fish finder by going to this link. (the green thing is the fish finder, just incase it takes you as long as it took me to figure that out. lol).

This is the link for the wireless cam.

The camera would only be used in enemy waters, that way using the fish finder I could stay far enough below the suraface to avoid detection until I was ready. (Unless of course the water is really clear).

I have a design for a ballast tank that I was going to post on here, but my computer rarely ever works and the scanner NEVER does.

Keep me posted on the Torpedo testing, I'm very interested in any designs that work.

This is not a ship that older men with bad backs and ailing limbs would be able to handle (a good portion of model warship combat participants meet one of these three categories). While it is possible, I do not think that scale is very practical.

On the same note as my brother, I'd be happy to see you prove me wrong. I have heard many people say that combat submarines aren't possible, yet I have seen three fight in my few years with the WWCC.

Back in the day(in the 80s) I saw 2 subs made by the late Cliff Shaw. One was a Gato that had 6 penny nails for armament. The other was a M-1 armed with 2 7/32nd gun. These 2 subs submerged and surfaced only. He would lie in wait to attack. The Gato he felt was too dangerous and self banned it

I have asked the question in the WWCC. What about a pull down motor under the submarine. Years ago (here we go again) Toys R Us sold a polaris sub. It was positive bouency. Mounted a motor with a propeller enclosed with like a rope guard around it. Since it had only one prop the prop turned so it had no rudder. To people who like their scale vessel this is not for you. This is one item that would not be in the sub and give it diving ability. Just a thought from a rambling old man. Trumpter makes a Balboa and Gato sub in 1/144th. Maybe some one can experiment with this ide.
