Well, just my luck! Justin gets a new host so the scuttlebutt actually works and now its too big (my problem!)!

The odd thing is, it's been longer before - but I suppose it's more colorful now. Although I don't think that should make a difference - I'm sure it does.

The lowest quality export I can do still makes it come out to around 25.3 MB and so I compressed it but the compression only reduced it by 0.1 MB.

Anyone have any suggestions that don't involved me cutting up the newsletter so its just text?

Reduce the amount of pixels / quality of each image? Tell acrobat to use a higher compression? Don't know if either is possible in acrobat, I've never paid adobe for the writes to make my own pdf! :)

Actually I'm using pages, but I do have Adobe Acrobat Pro as well ... perhaps tomorrow I can give it a try. But just so you all know, the Scuttlebutt is done I'm just having technical difficulties again (perhaps i'm cursed?!)

I think I have to go back and manually reduce the quality of the photos used. This may take some time as I've never done it in Pages before, but I'll try to make it snappy. However, just a heads up that the photos will not be as good as previous issues.

That does answer one question I had about submitting. I will just send a pages document. What version of iWork do you have?

Well those are all good descriptions, I personally prefer The Superior. hehe. I suggested someone get a mac on the main forum (to solve a common pc problem they were having) and got shot down from all directions.

I'm just waiting for apple to come out with the iCruiser - hopefully it comes in Japanese! hehe.

hehe, that's funny!

I'm sure it will be the prettiest thing on the water & the "User eXperience" will be amazing. Perhaps a leopard print?

However, I'm sure it will only be able to fight certain ponds, but that's ok... because all the other ponds in the world are unnecessary. It'll take special BBs and will use an environmentally friendly fuel cell instead of batteries. There will be, of course, only one button to fire your guns, which is to make it "less confusing" for the user.

Unfortunately, replacement parts will be impossible to find, if anything breaks you'll have to return it, forget upgrading, and you will have to sell your car to purchase one.

Ohh... & I can't wait for all the commercials that tell me my battleship is fat, slow, and is infact responsible for mucking up the pond.

tsk tsk tsk Justin, you PC people never learn do you?

The whole only certain ponds, certain BB's, etc? That's all PCs .... Macs run both OS, PCs dont. And if we are going in the direction of iPod, then the Zune is a terrible decision. Can't swap BB's with anything other than Zunes, you can only buy your parts/bbs online, blah blah blah. hehe.

Yeah, I own a Zune... It does suck. But, I just simply couldn't bring myself to own a Mac product. Besides, I don't know if iPod would be any better... Can't bring myself to try one out either. :)

-->BTW, my extreme opinion is b/c I'm a windows programmer by trade. :)

Yeah I figured!

You know, I never wanted an iPod either (or a Mac for that matter). However, I finally bought one for college mainly because of the lack of viruses. The laptop came with a free iPod (among other things) so I figured I might as well use you. I love it! I can't believe I used a sony mp3 player up until now, and unlike alot of non-ipod users think, you don't have to have a certain type of file and it doesn't have to be from iTunes. I rip songs off of the internet via Quicktime Pro and save them as .mov and everything else under the sun, and they still work brilliantly. Not to mention I love how when I plug in my iPod to charge it, it automatically updates with all my top songs. Besides, I have a sweet leather case for it that has the Ohio State stripe on it.... :)

Wow we got off topic! I'm hoping to get the scuttlebutt solved at work today.

That's a common misconception. Mac virus are rare only because hackers have better things to do with their time.

I read an article the other day about a nerd contest where the contestents chose a OS (OSX (or whatever you mac guys are running), Vista, or (some version of) Linux) to hack in & steal info of some sort & whoever did it first won like $10K..

The guy that won chose OSX because as he put it, "of the three, OSX was the easiest".

NOW GET BACK TO WORK! :)

Vista is an improvement over the petri dish that is/was xp.

*Edit*
Yes, I know you don't breed virii in a petri dish. Just an analogy.

Really, everyone I work with in the tech dept hates vista!

Justin, its easy to make virus's for Macs, but nearly impossible for them to work correctly when the user is aware of how virus's work. For a virus to take effect, you have to give it permission to the root folder (via password) so if you are aware of this, then you know not to give anything your password unless you are installing a major program that you trust.

And yes, I admit they are rare because of hackers going for the big group - but I'm not complaining, as long as they don't come after me! :)

Oh yes. Vista is hated, loathed, despised, abhorred. I think that sums it up.

But it is M$'s version of 10.1 so it will have to age for a while to get good. [;)]

From what I understand Vista SP1 is even worse. Quelle suprise!

Whats even more fun is getting all new computers throughout the company, 23,000 of them in 2 months loaded with Vista, and Office 07 at work, and thinking they will run all our old programs that we use, which some are still DOS.

Guess what, not much is working at this time. We still have our old machines to continue with the daily work, till they figure out all the bugs. And of course Office 07 is totally different than what everyone is used to also, so added headache.

Yeah, Office 08 is alot different too - although you can tell they were trying to get closer to Pages, its not even close. I only use Office 08 to read submissions that you guys give me!

Update on the newsletter - I got it down! It'll fit! Huzzah!

However, server problems! DOH!
