R/C Naval Combat

Since we started bleeding into the froggy topic... Post here if you have or are building an American ship!

As for me, I'm still deciding between USS Nevada 1944 and USS Alabama 1944.

If James does a Pennsy, I'd go along just so we could run a squadron.

I don't know. That 1944 Nevada is one of the more interesting refits of the older US Battlewagons. Those 5"/38's in twin mounts on the old hull just look neat, and this is coming from someone who is an avowed Pre-Dread/WW1 fan.

Well I am pretty sure there are some 1/4" triples out there for sale. Possibly enough for 2 Alabama class ships.
The Nevada cannons would have to be ordered.

Rather like the Vanguard situation during WW2.
You could build a ship to carry guns that already exist, or build a ship of your choice, to cannons that can be ordered also.
Just a thought.

Get the best of both worlds, build the original SoDak with cage masts AND get 12 1/4" guns!

I went with the Pennsy. WW1 fit.

Though I will resist the urge to paint her white and buff.

I wonder if she wore dazzle at any time?

Froggy, I'd have to check the spacing on the barrels. It wouldn't do to have them too close together!

James, are you saying you ordered plans for the 1913 Pennsy?

Just placed the order. Now I have to develop mad wood working skillz.

No dazzle for the Pennsy. She wore measure 1 in 1941 and measure 21 from 1942 to 1945.

Hehe. We can both poke along at the minimal 24kt mandated speed :) I'll do a Nevada, since I have the plans already, and 1/96 plans from TFD are spendy. Both Pennsy and Nevada were "standard" battleships, back in the day, designed to operate in the same battle line anyhow! Mine will still be 1944 vintage, as that's the plans I've got.

Oh well, wishful thinking. But since I am doing the WW1 version that list is not appropriate.

I don't think the Pennsy had dazzle back then either. Now the predreads got some great schemes.

The bulged versions were slower, but as neither version exceeds the minimum speeds that isn't an issue. No the issue is how to get a 76" ship in a Mini.

Roof rack? Cargo box? New Mini? Boat trailer?

Or, since the first southern battle is going to be in your neighborhood, I'll drive over, and we put your boat in my truck. Of course, for practice, you're on your own for transport 8D

I think a kayak trailer might be just the thing. It would just look silly strapped to the top of the car. The sunroof wouldn't work either. [:p]

Yeah, I'm thinking it wouldn't! How much would it cost to get the trailer hitch added to your Mini?

I'm going to get the ribs for Nevada copied today... too big do do on my home machine. I think I'm going to do them on 1/4" ply.

A touch of insomnia. According to FDD the Pennsy hull sections are 1/48. I am going to have to reduce them but at least the math is easy.

Yeah, I saw that on their website. Huge!
