You wouldn't be the first Battlestations captain to switch ships multiple times. I've changed my mind several times...there's just too many ships to fall in love with! [:D]

BTW, for only 10 more inches of length you could have an Iowa class BB, with 16" guns and almost the same speed...

Wow, what an UGLY ship! Please tell me you're not going to build a monster like that, please. Build something more aesthetically pleasing, and a bit more ferocious. After all, you've gotta have some real teeth if you want to fight for the Allies. Consider this ship as an alternative:

Guam just looked so... Awesome, laying out on the floor in full scale on the plans. Very tempting, although I did note that looking at the hull sections, I thought "Tirp's waaay bigger than that". Nonetheless, it's a very good looking ship when not covered in camoflage.

It does indeed look good for one of those new fangled contraptions. But it needs at least 3 funnels to look really good. [;)]

I dunno... looking at Carl's whaleboat there, I don't think any number of stacks will improve that!

Oh come on, its a splendid-looking battleship. Just enlarge the dorsal superstructure, turn those aft diving planes into tandem rudders, and sharpen its, um... baleen?

The Alaska class is a really cool set of ships. They're basically an Allied version of the Scharnhorst in Big Gun, so I would expect similar results from the Battlestations format. If you want, you could probably run with HPA tanks and arm some of the secondaries for close-in fighting, too. Remember that the other Battlestations ship being built (that we know of) is a Yamato, which is famously wide and poor depression for close-quarters fighting.

I should think the Scharnhorst has an edge in manueverability.
As one of the Yamato's targets, its lack of depression is a good thing.
My little DD will have to be positively Nelsonian to get a hit at all.

With Carl, you don't have to pay for gas either. Just get him some milk or dairy products and he packs more power than a battery of howitzers.

I agree Scharnhorst has better maneuverability. Its a bit shorter and has two rudders.

being wide has its perks, it'll take a lot of damage to sink and with the 20degree depression rule I'll be able to hit ships @ the water line as close as 8", ships that get closer will get their uppers pummeled with 9-1/4" and 15-BB sized broadsides (plus U/W TT's if I ever get around to figuring out a decent system)

That was my thought, Mark. Even 1/144 Yammers take a LOT of water to sink. Yours is gonna take Poseidon's bladder worth!

Also, any enterprising DD captains trying to get in close to Yamato had better not be too fond of their superstructure, and with enough K.E. could even get rolled :) I'd pay to see it!

Actually I would also applaud if the the mass of the incoming fire rolled the boat. Even if it was my own. I am getting a mental image of USS Arkansas during Shot Baker at Bikini.

Tug don't be foolish, stick with Tirpitz. It was your first choice and you should never 2nd guess yourself, you end up regretting it.

I worked on the secondary fiberglass-casting today. Front part is rock hard, sides still need reinforcing.

Okay...you are a horrible person. I am considering a bigger boat. That article I am writing for the Scuttlebutt has me seriously thinking about a Gangut! I may not sink anything but I will have the oddest ship on the water!

Especially since I can't find any "as built" plans and have to build the refit.
