I find it interesting that there are not more Hipper class cruisers being built.
With a triple shaft, single rudder arrangement, 3.5 units, and 32 knots speed, and the hull volume, these would probably be one of the better axis cruisers on the water.
In addition. There were four ships in the class, although they are slightly different in appearance, they had some pretty interesting histories.
One could also build one as the aircraft-carrier version, which was really cool.
And to top it off.
One of them actually sank the HMS Hood at the battle of the Denmark Straits. So why would anyone feel the need to build a Bismarck, when you could just build one of these smaller versions.

Now that's funny Mikey. Everyone knows that the British sank the Hood not the Pinz Eugen or the Bismarck.

There are two being built in Kentucky, correct? I'd build one as my Axis cruiser but I decided on the Chikuma instead. Between the Salem, Salt Lake City, Chikuma and Belleau Wood, I figure I can really only use so many cruiser type ships!

I'm surprised there aren't a few Hippers around. That was one of Ralph's earliest hulls and several were sold, though the plans he bought were inaccurate and gave too shallow a hull depth. Note that Prinz Eugen was longer and heavier than the others.

Bobo.
I recall having to drive down to N.C. to show you how to shoot the cannon.
Well. You knew how to shoot the cannon. You just needed to be shown how to hit anything with it.
That was a long time ago. And to think that I am still having to school you on such matters.
Haha.

Bobo. I am crushed.
Back in those days it was helping you learn to shoot. Now-a-days it's pump turn-on technology.
I guess I shouldn't be surprised that folks don't like me. At times, I don't like myself.
Haha. Hehe.

As I recall the N.C thing.
I was just ordering a Salt Lake City plan set, and someone put me in contact with Bobo. He lived in N.C. and had a Hipper class cruiser.
So one day I drove down to meet him, and we went down to the pond, where Bobo drove the Prinz around, and fired off the spurt cannon at a smallish post that was sticking out of the water in the middle of the pond.
I have no recollection of Bobo ever actually hitting the post with his stream of bbs. You'd of thought that the post was actually firing back at him.
Haha.
So then Bobo asked if I wanted to take her for a spin. Oh yeh.
So her buttoned her up and showed me the radio stuff, and off I went. I went for the post and fingered the stick. Nothing. He had forgotten to turn on the freon.
We brought her in and after much un-screwing got the freon turned on, and the ship buttoned up again. Off I went again.
I made my approach on the appearently defenseless post, and fingered the stick. This time the result was different. One shot, one kill. That's correct folks. Just one bb came out, and struck the post.
I looked over at Bobo with a big grin on my face, and he just opened his mouth, but then shut it again. he was speachless.
And that was how we all converted over to single shot cannons. I guess everyone wants to be like Mikey.
Well. That's my story, and I'm stickin to it.

My favorite is probably the Blucher.
I was reading about her exploits in Norway. Very interesting stuff.
But I also like the Prinz Eugen. Because of her involvement in the Bismarck break-out.
I wouldn't mind building a second Hipper class down the road, in the form of the Blucher.
But not any time soon I am afraid. Too many projects already.

I would agree.  There has been something that fascinated me about Blucher since I had the old Revell kit as a small child.  I understand that the gun that hit her is still in place.  (Made by Krupps)

I perfer the original Admiral Hipper as she fought more battles. I also like that she had a funny looking bow due to being originally built with a straight bow.

That is perhaps true.
But the more projects one has, the less progress will be made on any one project.
