In support of the Exercise Rhine in 2009 event scheduled for the May battle in 2009, I will be laying down a new HMS Hood (wooden hull).
The keel will be laid down on Sept. 1, just like the original Hood.
I have really enjoyed running the Renown this season, but with all of the new construction that will be coming on-line in the axis camp, it is time for me to step up to something a little more powerful.

"Laying down" That is a good choice of words. Bismarck hopes to help you with that.

Will History really repeat it self? Stay tuned same bat time same bat channel in a pond near you!

In the British fleet, placing one of those little blue pills between the cheek and gum, helps us keep a stiff upper lip..

I still have the mold for the Hood and a spare set of turrets if you want a fiberglass hull to speed things up.

Although I do enjoy making the hulls out of wood, I have to admit that time might not be on my side, so having a f/g hull would certainly shorten the build.
If you can make it happen, I would be interested in getting one, with turret covers.

Bob, if you make it happen I will do everything I can to help Mikey relive the history of the ship. :)

I have found that the Hood was able to make 32 knots on her sea trials.
But the question is, what was her highest possible speed in May of 1941?
It appears that it might have been 31 knots, but also only 30 knots.

Mikey you need to finish up that Rodney I sold you, then play out the death of the Bismarck, and sink Bobo's new Bismark with it, to continue your planned battles.

Average Top Speed: 31 knots / 57.4 km/h. During her 1939 Special Large Repair, the engines could still attain 144,000hp with a screw rotation of 197.6 rpm. By 1941 however, once more in dire need of an overhaul, Hood could only manage about 28.8 knots / 53.3 km/h.

Are you still looking for a Hood hull? Cold weather has arrived but an unusual warm spell will be upon us this weekened - warm enough to lay up a hull.

The weather is not going to cooperate with a Hood hull lay-up this weekend. Though there's going to be unusually warm weather it's supposed to rain for 3 days with wind gusts up to 50 kph. The only place I can lay up hulls is on our roofed front veranda but 50 kph winds will blow the rain right across it.

After this weekend we're back to the usual November temperatures that are too low for fiberglassing. Looks like Mike will have to wait until the spring to get a Hood hull from me. However, Ralph Coles has one he made from my mold and might be persuaded to part with it. I have a spare set of Hood turrets.

I spoke with Ralph last night, and he is willing to sell me the Hood hull that he has.
That will be a big help, as I may not be able to find the time to build a wood hull, due to my schedule at work.

I've emailed Ian M. last night to ask if he'll sell you the Hood model I built a few years ago. It was disarmed when I sold it to a guy in New Brunswick and was used as a non-combat R/C model. It's now back in Halifax, where I've helped Ian order and assemble a new pneumatic system (the old one and original BB cannons will go into my Vanguard).

Bear in mind that this is a very accurate model of the Hood as she appeard on trials, not how she looked in 1941, but needs a few more details such as the main gun directors.

If Ian agrees to sell the Hood Ralph will pack and ship it for you. If Ian doesn't want to sell Ralph will sell you a Hood hull he made from my mold.
