This may sound odd but what ships had quad turrets for their main armament?

I know of 3

KGV CLASS

DUNKERQUE CLASS

RICHELIE CLASS

probably spell last one wrong.

The Normandie class but of course those were never finished due to the First World War. One was completed as the aircraft carrier Bearn.

I have a vague memory of a North Carolina variant with 12 14" guns in 3 quad turrets. I will have to look that up though.

yep your right it was planed with quad cannons in three turrets but they were planed to be 16"

heres a pic http://www.wolfsshipyard.mystarship...a_Quad.jpg

theres also some other crazy plans on the same site:

http://www.wolfsshipyard.mystarship...united.htm

theres one plan of a ship that has six cannons on each turret and it has four turrets

be aware that some are actual plans and some are just what the guy that made the site thought might look good

ive got a pic of another ship that isnt a richilieu or a dunkerque but is has quad cannons on the front but you cant see the rear cannons, it looks like a North Carolina, ironicly the pic i saved is labled North C 14'', so yeah, probably it was 14'' not 16'', but hay.. who cares its got 12 cannons

I think the North Carolina class was originally planned to have 12 14" guns (in three quad turrets).
The French also planned a Lyon class battleship with sixteen cannons (in 4 quad turrets).
Normandies
Lyons
Dunkerques
KGVs
North Carolinas
Richelieus
And possibly the Alsace

I think the picture burnzy pasted is photo job of the North Carolina picture on Battlers Connection.
I am not saying burnzy did the photo job.

It would have to be, as none of the 12x14" North Carolinas were built. When the London Treaty was clearly doomed the USN used the elevator clause and built the ships with 9x16"

That page displays U.S. ideas that were proposed but never laid down.
There is another site that has never builts from countries other than the U.S.
It even shows the proposed Polish battleship. It would have been built by the French and had only two turrets. (Both Quads)

Could be.
I do wish that more countries had at least laid down some battleships. It would be nice to see more countries represented on the pond.
One thing nice about Quad turrets, it keeps the cost down.

The Belfast class cruisers were designed with 4 quad 6 inch turrets, but the turrets were never built and the ships ended up completed as 12 gun ships with triple turrets.
