which cruiser is better?
The Graff Spee has 3.5 units but is not allowed to split units, so 1 75 rd & 1 50 rd. gun. 1 rudder/2 props
While the Mogami is a 3.0 unit ship w/ 4 props & twin rudders (unless I am mistaken) while being almost 75' longer than Graff Spee.
This is my first combat ship.
Which is the better ship??

I have attended a battle, and even got to drive a spare cruiser during battle. It was great, do it first!
Now I am leery of any cruiser over 600'. Reason being its gota be a turn & burn ship or its gona be a sunk ship. I see how important it is for a cruiser now. So how can I out turn other cruisers if im way longer than they are?

My Kumano(Mogami) at Nats this year could out turn any of the other 23 cruisers on the water. She has dual rudders, and gets the 25% more rudder rule.

In fact Rick has his Scheer and I can turn circles inside of his. Also at Nats I found being able to turn so well, I was over with the battleships supporting them most of the sorties, by blocking and rubbing the NC's for our 26 sec ships. I took little damage in the process.

By the time the picture was taken, as you can see they were trying to get me, but she lasted the week without sinking.

Greg: MWCI group rules.
DJrainer: I knew it had 60 some feet on other cruisers but the tandem rudders do the trick eh?

At least w/ mogami my gun set up will be simpler. Just twin stern guns & 1 unit pump. Okay Mogami here I come!!

Hehehehe, I hope mine is as good as the others. Although I am reconsidering going for the Japanese ship. I would rather have the German ship but it does have some Combat handicaps to consider.
How bad off are the Deutschland class ships really? Do most go with a 50 rd. bow gun/ 75 rd. stern gun and just make a go of it?

The Deutschland ships are not bad ships at all in MWC. Sure, they have a single rudder and a couple of shafts, but they still turn pretty well. They are a popular cruiser. If you want every little bit of combat advantage you can, don't get a Deutschland ship. If you want something that looks great, has lots of varients to model, and holds up well in combat, then get one. :)

It's the only ship I brought with me to South Korea. :)

I went with dual sterns (50rd and 75 rd). I've seen them with a stern 75rd gun and a bow 50rd gun. Both battle well.

Yeah, and Rick's Graf Spee has beenin the hobby longer than I have, without a refit. He loaned it to me when Brian K took me to see this madness called "rc naval combat". So it's Rick's fault that I play with boats. His, and his Graf Spee's.
Battling: SMS Scharnhorst, SMS Baden Building: HMS KGV (Drives, pumps water, guns are in but not plumbed) MN Edgar Quinet (Hull done) Drydock/Mothballed: Rus Evstafi, DKM Lutzow, HMS Invincible Plus 20-odd other projects, according to my Boy Scouts who thoughtfully counted them for me.

So it's the Graf Spee? Ahhhh, I see. I still say congatulations, I will be building the Bismarck so I understand the pull of the German fleet.

No Ricks Scheer is his brand new one that we all worked on to get it ready for Nats, it out turns his old one quite a bit. He uses the old one as a loaned boat. He won best of scale with it at Nats.

For Combat-X I am outfitting Graf Spee with 4 units. DUAL sterns and a single bow mount. Ship would run 24 second speed under the CombatX speed chart.

I Actually prefer the Graf Spee

3x 1 unit Guns
1x0.5 unit pump Good motor/Battery)

A cruiser with d dual stern mount
and a bow mount, a little surprising
in a class 3 boat.

Just my two cents.

Yes there is that slight distance between club rules

In our club we are allowing my son as he is just starting out to run
the Graf SPee type ship with a slightly modified set up, as he gets
better we will switch it back to a legal set up by just changing the
pump outlet.

For the sart he will run with Dual sterns and a single bow bun loaded
with only 25 BBs in the bow and a full unit pump, to make legal we
fill the bow gun with 50 rounds and change the pump outlet to a half
unit. the stern guns can fire individually or together (if looking
at clock face one stern gun fires with stick to 3 Oclock, other stern
fires when stick is moved to 6 Oclock, if want to fire both stick
goes to 4:30, (ps I am using poppits Mav-2s))
