Anyone got advice - i have a 2.4 GHz Futaba reciever - do i need to have the antenna come out of the ship, or can i keep it entirely internal in the hull/watertight box?

2.4GHz is easily absorbed by water. You can mount it inside the hull so long as the antenna is above the waterline.
