I saw Krijn's fletcher show up on the 'warship registry'...  Is that the plastic model that everyone's talking about?

...It looks great!

That looks like one of the new 1:144 scale models that is coming out. Very nice ship. A very good starting point to build a combat ship from once you get the hull remolded into a much more sturdy material. the super will be great for recasting.

its the Revell uss fletcher/chevallier kit yes

even with small electronics and motors its still hard to get the extra available weight to turn her into a combat model

my fletcher has 2 mabuchi 130's , a 9 grams digital servo and a agile v16 1:18 scale esc (about a square inch footprint)  she uses 2 li-ions for power and a small 4 channel multiplex pico receiver, she also has 4 aaa as receiver battery.

as ballest a single  dead li-ion cell was the perfect weight.

to turn her into a combat model would require a cannon,a solenoid or servo and poppet and a co2 system.. and this all can nt be heavier then say 350 grams

she would also need a pump.

if someone wants to ndo the calculations feel free but i doubt its possible.

concerning molding parts, some yes and i have already started looking at what parts .. i know i can copy the whaleboats and liferafts and turrets , maybe even the torpedo tubes but alot of the superstructure parts are to curved to mold

KrijnUSS Chevallier internals

i will put pics on my profile, i cant seem to get them here again.

Yeah, small destroyers can be really tough to build for fast gun. My Z-boat was fun to run with her one gun, but very wet in the turns. She was low in the water and any superstruture and guns were made of lightest balsa I could find. The Fletcher would be even tougher I think. I do have the Gearing hull and have been somewhat reluctant to start due to the same reasons. But she would be a big gun boat with side torpedoe tubes. We will see. ;-D

Didn't she ram Tirpitz, during a battle?
