Could anybody suggest a good brushed DC motor that I could use on my Atlanta class light cruiser (2 for drive, 1 for pump)? Ideally I would like something efficient that doesn't draw too much current when it stalls. I've heard some people say good things about Maxon DC motors, but looking at their site is a bit confusing.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank-you,

Chase

I've had very good luck using regular Mabuchi Speed 400 series of motors. They have two nice advantages; they are cheap (less than $10 from a local hobby shop) and come in three different voltages (4.8, 6, and 7.2). The 7.2 volt motor is nice for direct drive propulsion setups running on 6 volts. The 6 volt motors work well on geared setups running on 6 volts. And I've used the 4.8 volt motor for pumps running on 6 volt systems.

Hey Mike, what's your favorite source for Mabuchi 400's?

A local hobby shop most of the time. Umm ... Hobby Lobby has them for $8 each. Looks like there are a few on eBay too for only $2, listed as RS-380.
