That must have been cool to see. If you didn't have to buy a new one.
I remember NATS 2006, we lost a ton of ESC that year. Kevin was hooking one up when it started to melt down and smoke, thick, black smelly stuff. A couple hours latter he was standing next to me, I smelled that bad electrical smoke scent, thought something of mine was melting and started pulling batteries. Kevin looked at me and smiled, "Oh, that smell is just me."

I started out in the RC warship world many years ago and moved on to electric RC helos and now I'm coming back to warships. If anyone has any brushless questions, I'd be happy to answer them as best I can.

As a bit of general advice, I'd recommend getting helicopter outrunner motors instead of the airplane variants as they will be easier to mount.

It should be noted this was a direct replacement for a 550 motor and screwed right to the bc gearbox

Nope; been working my rear off @ my real job. But it looks like starting sometime next week I'll be able to throw an hour a day @ it. I'm so excited.. Big ass motor, stall proof esc, rpm & heat telemetry.. I'll be nicely set.
Cheers,
jks
